Position Overview:

ALL Aspects Recruitment & HR Services are seeking a dedicated and empathetic Male Counsellor to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing counselling and support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men, addressing a range of emotional, psychological, and social issues within a culturally sensitive framework.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Counselling: Provide individual and group counselling services to male clients, addressing mental health, substance abuse, trauma, and other personal issues.
  • Cultural Sensitivity: Deliver services in a culturally appropriate manner, respecting and integrating Aboriginal cultural values and practices.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with community members, local leaders, and other stakeholders to support and promote mental health initiatives.
  • Assessment and Planning: Conduct comprehensive assessments, develop treatment plans, and evaluate progress in collaboration with clients and their families.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for the needs of clients and work towards improving access to resources and services within the community.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and confidential records of client interactions, treatment plans, and progress reports.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Relevant qualifications in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field and registered with AHPRA 
  • Experience: Previous experience in counselling or mental health support, preferably with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
  • Cultural Competency: Strong understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and issues, with a commitment to providing culturally sensitive care.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients.
  • Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a remote and culturally diverse environment.
  • Clearances: Must have a current National Police Check (no more than one month old) and Ochre Card

Desirable Attributes:

  • Previous experience working in remote or rural settings.
  • Knowledge of local Aboriginal languages or dialects.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Salary packaging up to $15,899.94 pa.
  • Subsidised accommodation for candidates outside of the Barkly region
  • Up to $5000 relocation assistance and up to $5000 repatriation assistance.
  • 6 weeks annual leave as well as personal/carer’s leave up to 10 days per year
  • Study leave can be negotiated
  • Remote retention allowance of $750

  • Free General Dentistry (Lab Work to be paid by employee)
